Here are my favourite places around GLS during my stay. As a fan of food, fashion and socialising, you'll see that the places I've picked reflect this. Enjoy :)
1. My favourite place to eat closeby GLS was Babel. It's a lovely Lebanese place just across the road which I was recommended by a fellow GLS student and it certainly didn't disappoint! I recommend the Schwarma and the Halloumi - they use fresh ingredients and the sauces are gorgeous.
2. Just a few doors from GLS, you can find an independent cinema called Lichtblick Kino. It´s a cute little place with a small screen seating around 50 people. It´s a very interesting experience in comparison to visiting large commercial cinemas and I´d defitinely recommend you pop in to catch a showing. It even has a piano at the front (go figure!)
3. Hallo Herz is small independent Boutique on the same road as GLS. Even though its mainly for women, I have to put it on my list as the accessories are unisex and I managed to buy a cool rusksack from here which will always remind me of Berlin :)
4. Uhranus is a cool gift shop on the opposite side to GLS. It has lots of funky items and (postcards, mugs, posters, pens, etc.) and you can spend plenty of time in there just window shopping!
5. Although there are many parks in Berlin, just down the road you have the Volkspark am Weinbergsweg which has an amazing lake at the far end. Its a great place to just relax and chill out, and there are always lots of people around. In the evenings there´s a great atmosphere around the place and it even has a cool bar!
6. For all you sneakerheads, Above is a cool place on the same side of the road as GLS to pick up a new pair of kicks! There are often sales/promotions and I even managed to find myself a great pair of trainers at an even better price. Go and grab yourself a bargain!
7. Here´s another place for the foodies! For any Sushi fans, be sure to try Ha-an. Again its on the same road as GLS and has lots of shushi and even meal options at very reasonable prices.
8. With a name like Burger World there´s only one reason to go here! They use fresh organic meat and the chips are great too! Many different types of burgers so everyones happy here :)
9. Prater Garten is just up the road from GLS, and upon entry there are 3/4 different food and drinks options. Its a nice outdoor space so great to with fellow students and friends. As the sign shows it has a large beer garden so go grab yourself a drink and catch some rays when the suns out!
10. Nothaft + Seidel is a nice coffee shop just opposite Eberwelderstraße station. There are lots of varieties of coffees and snack, and fact its always packed is a testament to how good it is!
BONUS: And last but not least, no visit to Berlin is complete without trying Currywurst. Luckily for GLS-ers, Konnopke´s Imbiss is located under the bridge of Eberswaldestraße station. I´m told by some local people that its actually one of the best in Berlin, so go try for yourself!
