My name is Clarice, I am Brazilian and I am living in Berlin for two months now, studying German at German Language School. Berlin is amazing, full of history, art and different things to see all the time. But leaving the city for a while can also be a good option. One of the most popular tours for those who visit Berlin is Potsdam. Less than an hour away from the German capital, Potsdam is the perfect combination between charm and historical legacy – and it’s also declared by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
As Berlin, Potsdam also has its Brandenburg Gate, but on an older and smaller version - it was built in 1770.
This is Brandenburger Strasse, a very charming street composed by cafés, restaurants and many shops. There are many tourists there, but also many local families just having a walk. You'll certainly find something to do on Brandenburger Strasse! On the background it's possible to see the St. Peter und Paul Kirche, a catholic church built in 1870.

And speaking of churches, this is the protestant St. Nicholas Church, one of the most significant examples of architecture of German classicism. It can surely impress anyone with its beautiful dome and imposing architecture.
This is part of the beautiful Church of Peace, also a protestant church, but inspired on the Italian architecture. It is located at the Sanssouci Park and it was built in 1845 for the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhem IV.

Oh, the amazing Sanssouci Palace! It was designed between 1745 and 1748 for the Prussian King Friedrich II. The king wanted it to be a place where he could just relax and enjoy the beauty and harmony of the nature around him, away from the Berlin Court. And they did a good work, because the Palace is charming, calm and romantic. Although on the day I visited it the weather was rainy, I could imagine how a summer day must be like in there.
Differently from Sanssouci, the Neues Palais was built in 1769 to show the power – especially the belic one – of Prussia, which was back then one of the most dominant areas of Germany. Friedrich wanted to show the strength and glory of Prussia - and it certainly worked, because it’s easy to feel impressed with the imposing beauty of this place.
I am sure that there are many other things to see and do in Potsdam, this is just a small part of this amazing city full of history and beauty.
