こんにちは。今日は日本人が抱きやすいベルリンに対するイメージと私が生活する中で感じた相違点についてお話ししますね。
1. Is Berlin dangerous city as a big city of Germany?
ベルリンの治安について。
Japanese sometimes have the thought that big cities are dangerous such as New York, London, and also Tokyo. I also thought about that, so I asked my German friends before coming here to Berlin! They say the most dangerous city in German is Frankfurt or Hamburg where the economy is quite big. Berlin is in peace. Big cities in Europe is not so big as those in Japan like Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and so on. Berlin is almost the same as Nagoya and I think you do not have to worry about how dangerous it is.
Of course I worried about that, too but once I had to go home over 12pm, it was hardry dangerous! So you can enjoy night life in Berlin to go to a pub or a bar and alcohol is quite cheap in Germany!
ベルリンってドイツの首都な分、大きくてニューヨークやロンドン、東京みたいに危険なんじゃないかって思ってる人はいると思います。私もそう思ったので、ベルリンに来る前にドイツ人の友達に聞いてみたんです。彼らいわく、ドイツで１番危険な都市はフランクフルトやハンブルクなどの経済が発展している都市だそうです。ベルリンは平和そのもののようで。ヨーロッパの大都市って、基本的に大きくないんです。東京や大阪と比べたら小さいです。ベルリンは名古屋と同じぐらいなんじゃないかなぁと思います。そのせいか私は全然危険を感じません。むしろ名古屋以上に感じてません。それでもやっぱりベルリンに来てみて心配だったんですが、１度夜中の１２時過ぎに家に帰らないといけない時がありまして。でも全然危険じゃなかったです。だからバーとかパブにも普通にいけますよ！しかもお酒が安い！
2. Image of East Germany
東ドイツのイメージについて
Since the GLS is located in East Berlin, it means the school was in the former East Germany.Since my country, Japan is one of the capitalism nation, our thought of communist ones is not good. Maybe you feel scary to stay in East Berlin, however, please look at guidebooks. Recent hot spots are almost in East Berlin. Alexander platz and Hackenscher markt are located in East Berlin. Because there are many places to be renovated afeter the collapse of the wall. So, you should think East Berlin as new town or so like Odaiba, Tama in Tokyo and Sasashima in Nagoya. haha. Honestry, west Berlin is more beautiful as towm than East and many native German people live in west. There are not so drawing in the street and many buildings are looks clean. But to stay in Berlin cheaper, you should live in East. It is no more dangerous around Alexander platz or other centre area where you can do flat share. I saw the town in East Berlin with my eyes, so I can say so! I live in west Berlin but the prices of food are a little bit more expensive than East Berlin, so I want to move to East Berlin. West Berlin is completely built up as town, so you can not find new and big shopping center or so...just Kudamm or so and not so many bars and pubs...and in my area, there are not so many young people to compare with East Berlin...I really want to move! Though I live in West Berlin, I feel I live in a countryside.
GLSは東ベルリンにあり、これはつまり旧東ドイツ側にあるということです。日本が資本主義国であることもあり、社会主義国のイメージってそんなよくないと思うんです。きっと東ドイツに暮らすことを怖いと感じている方もいると思うんですが、そういう方はガイドブックを手にとってみてください。最近話題になってる場所って、大体東ベルリンに位置するんですよ。アレキサンダープラッツも、ハッケンシャーマルクトも東ベルリンです。なぜって、壁崩壊後に、再開発する場所が余りに余ってるから！だから、東ベルリンはニュータウンか何かと思っていいんじゃないかと思います。お台場とか多摩みたいなかんじですね。名古屋ならささしま。笑。正直に言うと、西ベルリンの方がきれいです。らくがきも少ないし、建物の外観もきれい。ですが、安く暮らしたいなら東ベルリンのがおすすめです。アレキサンダープラッツとか、GLSに通うためのフラットシェアをするエリアってのは全然危険じゃありません。これは私が実際に見てきたのでいえることです。 私は今西ベルリンに住んでいるんですが、物価が東ベルリンより高いんです。。。だから引っ越したい。。。西ベルリンって、ほとんど街としてできあがってるので、新しくて大きいショッピングセンターとかはほとんどありません。クーダムくらいでしょうか。そしてバーとかも少ない！特に私の住んでいるところは、若い方も少ないので、ほんと引っ越したい。。。西ベルリンにいるのに過疎地にいるような気分になります。
3. Are Japanese welcomed?
日本人のイメージは？
I asked my German friends about the image of Japanese. They answered that Japanese are rich (and always have cameras...I can not absolutely deny...) and sometimes they do not pay attention to their bags, so they are sometimes stolen, but if you keep your eyes on your bags, you do not have to worry about that. Fortunately or unfortunately, Japanese are thought as more educated and integrated people than other people from Asian countries. So, you do not have to worry about the racism to Japanese. Thanks to Japanese manufacturing companies like Sony or Toyota, Japanese are thought as trustworthy. Sometimes my German friends show me Japanese products such as Camera and they say 'this is Japanese products! It is never broken and the quality is absolutely good!' However, German think Japanese are rich, so please pay attention to your belingings!
これも友達に聞いてみました。みんなが言うには、日本人はとにかくお金持ち（そしていつもカメラを持っている。。。これは完全には否定できません。）そして荷物に隙があると。だから盗まれやすいんじゃないのかなぁって話です。でもちゃんと気を配ってたら、そのことについては安心していいと思います。いいのか悪いのか、日本人は、他のアジア諸国の方々と比べて、きちんと教育されてる国民だと思われているそうです。だから日本人に対する人種差別はご心配ありません！最近はソニーやトヨタのおかげか、日本人は信用に値するイメージがあるそうです。時々ドイツ人の友達が日本製品を見せてくれるんですが、絶対に壊れないし最高、と教えてくれます。ですが、とにかく、日本人はお金持ちというイメージが強いです。だから手荷物にはご注意を！
4. Can German speak English well?
ドイツ人は英語を話せますか？
I think so. To compare with Scandinavian people, the per cent of the people who speak English is not high, but German still can speak English well in Europe. My German friends say that you should talk to people looks older than university students. They can speak English fluently. In my opinion, I am not good at using English, especially speaking and listening, however, I could ask someone the way to get somewhere or buy something at market. What the most important is to have your will to want to tell! It does not matter what language you speak! It is by my experience of study abroad.
私はそう思います。北欧の人々と比べると、話せる確率は減りますが、それでもヨーロッパではかなり話せる部類に入ります。ドイツ人の友達いわく、大学生以上だと思しき人に話しかければ大丈夫だとのこと。彼らは英語が反せﾏｽ。私の意見としては、私も英語が苦手で、特に話すのと聞くのはもうこれでもかってぐらい苦手なんですが、でも道を尋ねたり、市場で何か買うこともできてます。大事なのは、伝えたいっていう意志を持つこと。どの言語でもそれは変わりません。これは経験上お伝えできることのひとつです。
5. Are there any similarities between German and Japanese?
ドイツ人と日本人の似てるとこってありますか？
Yes, we do not speak so much and are strict but makes machine as cars really well, my boss said. For me, German are talkative and they never stop their talking. So there are many people lined and make looooooooooooooong que at the information of a station...Moreover, I never imagined that German are so easygoing! They are not so much to compare with people from Italy, Spain and France, but still German are easygoing! You should pay attention to it. German's 5 minutes are sometimes equal to 30 minutes. They are not punctual as Japanese since we, Japanese are the most punctual in the world! When you made an appointment with someone, you should say, 'Let's see us at 10:00 in the morning (This is just an example!). This is 10:00 for Japanese! It is not for German time!' or just tell your frineds 30 minutes eariler than what time you want to meet them.
あまり話さなくて、厳しいけど、でも車とか何かを造ることにはすごく長けてる、ってのが上司の意見です。ですが、私にとっては、ドイツ人はすごくよく話すし、いつまでたっても話し合ってます。だから駅のインフォメーションで長蛇の列ができてることなんてしょっちゅうです。あと、私はドイツ人がこんな気楽だとは思ってませんでした。イタリア、スペイン、フランスなどのラテン系と比べると、それほどではありませんが、それでもドイツ人だって十分気楽！ご注意ください。ドイツ人の５分って時には３０分だったりします。ドイツ人って日本人ほど時間に厳しくはありません。というか、日本人が世界で１番時間に厳しいんですが！誰かと会う約束をしたときは、こういいましょう。「１０時に会おう、（これは例ですが） 日本人にとっての１０時だからね！ドイツ人にとっての１０時じゃないよ！」と。それか、会いたいと思う時間の３０分前を伝えておきましょう。
