My name is Clarice, I am a Brazilian student at German Language School. One of the reasons that made me choose Berlin was how this city is filled with History. It was under URSS’s domain during decades, which left behind some great examples of soviet architecture and some interesting facts.
Meu nome é Clarice, sou uma estudante brasileira na German Language School. Uma das razões por eu ter escolhido Berlim foi por conta de sua história. A cidade ficou sob domínio da URSS por décadas, o que deixou alguns grandes exemplos da arquitetura soviética e também alguns fatos interessantes.
This is Frankfurter Tor, at Karl-Marx-Allee, an avenue built between the years of 1952 and 1960 by East Germany. It was called then Stalinallee. The most interesting thing about it is its imposing soviet architecture.
Esse é o Frankfurter Tor, na Karl-Marx-Allee. Essa é uma avenida construída entre os anos de 1952 e 1960 pela Alemanha Oriental, chamada então de Stalinallee. O mais interessante nela é sua arquitetura soviética imponente.
Not so close to Karl-Marx-Allee, at Treptower Park, there is an impressive place that may bring you back to World War II: The Soviet Memorial. It was built between 1946 and 1949, in honor to the 80.000 dead soldiers from the Red Army during the war.
The memorial is also a cemetery, where 5.000 soldiers were buried. It’s the biggest antifascist monument of Western Europe, and it tells the story of how the Red Army overcame the Nazis.
At the end of the memorial, there is a big imposing statue showing a soviet soldier holding a German little girl. It represents that the Red Army saved Germany from fascism.
The soviet part of Berlin is impressive and incredibly interesting, just like the rest of the city!
