The Pergamon is one of the most famous museums in the world and houses orginial-sized Pergamon houses.
The museum is subdivided into the antiquity collection, the Middle East museum, and the museum of Islamic art. The museum is one of the most visited in Germany and is a must see.
During the Christmass Special, on 23/12/2010 we visited the Pergamon Museum which is one of the landmarks of Berlin. We went as a group of around 14 people and the Museum is a few minutes walk from U-Bahn U6 (Friedrichstraße).
You get audio recordings are very useful and I recommend them for anyone who wants to visit the Museum otherwise it can be confusing!
The museum has many sculptures and the history of the scultputres is explained in the audio tapes!
Another favourite was the mosaic flooring which is very artistic and has very fine detail. Some of the mosaic flooring was damaged and had to be re-constructed but most was original.
One of my favourite parts of the museum is the islamic arts section which was a fairly large section and had very interesting parts to it from Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia. Shown above is two pages from the Quran.
One of the fascinating things about this museum ithe original-sized, reconstructed monumental buildings. This helps create the atmosphere of the era and also gives you a greater appreciatiation of the great time and work that was put in to this.
Overall, I recommened this museum for anyone who is interested in art and history. It is worth the value and it is more fun when you travel with GLS
